MEDIA ADVISORY: ‘Smart’ anti-tip system for manual wheelchairs, improved ergonomics for Nissan Atlimas and Maximas and an anthropomorphic robot hand showcased at 91ÌÆ²®»¢’s Engineering Senior Design Day

91ÌÆ²®»¢ engineering seniors will display their innovations Tuesday, April 22, during the ‘s Senior Design Day, which is open to the public.

More than 50 projects will be displayed and demonstrated – ranging from a ‘smart’ anti-tip system for a manual wheelchair to improved ergonomics for Nissan Altimas and Maximas – from 3 to 5 p.m. at 91ÌÆ²®»¢’s Featheringill Hall Atrium. The design projects were selected by teams of seniors and sponsored by a variety of Middle Tennessee companies and agencies. The seniors met with their sponsoring companies to select a problem of interest to the company and worked throughout the year to design solutions.

Senior Design Day showcases the solutions and prototypes the seniors built. Other projects include:

  • A right hand for the university’s Intelligent Soft-Arm Control robot (ISAC);
  • A vertical workstation that allows you to stand or walk on a treadmill;
  • Sound therapy prototype – music to potentially benefit Alzheimer’s patients, those with developmental disabilities, people with acute or chronic pain, and others;
  • Smart home automation for energy conservation.
