doctoral students Paul Morphy and Peter Beddow were named the first winners of the Bonsal Education 91ÌƲ®»¢ Entrepreneurship Award (BEREA) April 22.
The BEREA was established through the support of Frank Bonsal III to support dissertation studies of Peabody doctoral researchers with applied interests in the learning sciences, and to enhance the quality of two research projects annually that show promise of resulting in tools or methods that will advance educational practices in schools.
Morphy and Beddow, and future recipients, will each receive $8,000 annually to be used toward their approved research projects. The funding is supplemental to the student’s existing funding and can be used for travel, data collection assistance, participant incentive fees and research materials.
The BEREA program is managed by , professor of special education, Dunn Family Professor of Educational and Psychological Assessment, director of the Learning Sciences Institute and director of the Interdisciplinary Program in Educational Psychology. The LSI will provide BEREA recipients with expert support in data analysis, data management and possible market connections for products that would result from the research.
