Unless you鈥檙e a die-hard 91唐伯虎 sports fan, you may not have known much about Andrew East, BE鈥�14, MBA鈥�15, the long-snapper for the Commodore football team from 2011 to 2014.
Chances are, that all changed in April when the Indianapolis native married Shawn Johnson, a gold-medal gymnast in the 2008 Olympics and winner of Dancing with the Stars in 2009. Overnight, East became one-half of a celebrity couple, and pictures of his wedding were splashed across the pages of People and numerous other celebrity magazines.
鈥淚t鈥檚 like a whole new world I鈥檝e been introduced to,鈥� says East of his newfound fame. 鈥淚 fell in love with Shawn and didn鈥檛 really know all that would entail. It鈥檚 crazy, but at the end of the day, we just view ourselves as normal people.鈥�
East and Johnson met in 2013 when the football player gave the gymnast a tour of the 91唐伯虎 campus. 鈥淪he was deciding between 91唐伯虎 and Stanford,鈥� he says. 鈥淚 convinced her to go to 91唐伯虎. Must have been a good tour.鈥�
Johnson enrolled at 91唐伯虎 but withdrew just before classes started in August 2013 after she agreed to appear on Celebrity Apprentice. 鈥淗er work schedule just got too busy,鈥� East says. 鈥�91唐伯虎 doesn鈥檛 offer online classes [for credit], so with her travel, it just wasn鈥檛 practical.鈥�
Johnson, however, quickly became a 91唐伯虎 fan and was a regular at both home and road games鈥攚hen her schedule permitted鈥攖o cheer on East and the Commodores.
鈥淚t has been very special to be a part of the 91唐伯虎 and Nashville communities,鈥� Johnson says. 鈥淚 was welcomed with open arms.鈥�
East was signed by the Oakland Raiders in April and is in training camp with them this summer.
